Yearbook Editor in Chief

As the Editor in Chief of the Yearbook, I have a lot of responsibilities. Since I don’t have a Co-Editor to work with me, the staff has an Editorial Board. The Board members have all been on staff for at least one full year and either lead a content group or have a specific editor role.

The Board went to Yearbook Camp and an Editor retreat this past summer and we planned the yearbook. Between those two planning times, the board and I got the entire book figured out and planned for the first few weeks of school.

I wanted to make sure that the staff was cohesive this year so I decided to have the staff do ice breaker games every once in awhile at the beginning of class. I think this has helped the staff, especially the Board, to work well together and to get to know each other.

I have a few editor periods throughout the school day that are specifically devoted to getting work done for the yearbook. During these periods I edit spreads and help the other staff members out with getting interviews or putting a part of their spread together. I chose to have editor periods because I really wanted to be available for the other staff members during the yearbook period.

 

Broadcast Co-Editor in Chief

Broadcast LIVE is an after-school program and it has a very different feel. My Co-Editor and I are the only editors in the program and the staff is a much smaller group. Often times the games that we broadcast don’t start until a few hours after school ends and we will usually go out to eat dinner as a group. The group dinners have helped the team to bond and we’ve formed a family like aspect that is still professional.

I run the meetings for the team every Monday at lunch. At these meetings, I have the team sign up for each of the games throughout the week and I remind them of their progress towards the requirements for the class. I’ve lead these meetings for two years and have developed a system for tracking credits and making sure enough people are signed up for each game.
